Privacy policy

1. Scope and purpose

This policy covers the GPT Navigator Helper Chrome extension, maintained by the GitHub account sssstf0rest (“we” or “the developer”). Its purpose is to help fix a missing ChatGPT native navigator caused by incomplete history loading, by automatically preparing conversation history and displaying navigator visibility, observed prompt counts, and preparation status.

This is an independent extension, not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. ChatGPT is provided by OpenAI.

2. Information processed locally

The extension runs on https://chatgpt.com/*. It accesses only information needed for its features:

• Conversation history responses. The extension temporarily parses copies of recognized ChatGPT history responses. Those responses may contain your prompts, ChatGPT’s answers, and other conversation information, including personal information you have included. It extracts conversation and message identifiers, whether messages are user prompts, counts, selected-branch identifiers, pagination cursors, and history-completion information. Prompt and answer text is not retained in the extension’s tracking state or sent to its popup.
• Page and navigation state. It reads the current conversation address, native navigator elements, message identifiers, layout and reading-position information, page visibility, and light/dark theme to prepare history and report status.
• Interaction timing. It detects typing, pointer, touch, and scrolling events to interrupt preparation and resume after inactivity. It does not record the text you type or maintain an interaction history.

The popup receives a small status summary, including navigator visibility, observed prompt count, theme, and an explanation when needed. The extension does not track your browsing history on other websites, extract passwords or authentication tokens, or read browser cookies for its own use.

3. Network requests and sharing

The extension can enlarge recognized ChatGPT history requests and trigger ChatGPT’s own earlier-history loader. This may cause your browser to retrieve more of your conversation from ChatGPT’s servers using your existing ChatGPT session. These are requests to ChatGPT, not uploads to the developer.

The extension has no developer-operated backend, analytics, advertising, or remote error-reporting service. It does not send conversation content or derived metadata to us or to an external data processor. It does not sell or rent that information or use it for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or AI-model training. The developer cannot remotely read your conversations through the extension.

ChatGPT’s own processing, storage, and network activity are governed by OpenAI’s privacy policy. This extension does not change those practices.

4. Storage, retention, and security

Conversation responses are parsed temporarily. The extension’s tracking metadata remains in the loaded page’s memory and is reset when a recognized conversation changes or a new initial history load starts. It does not write conversation content or tracking metadata to browser local storage, synced storage, a database, or developer servers.

Reloading or closing the page ends its active extension instance; the browser manages the lifetime of page memory and cached pages. This does not delete conversations stored by ChatGPT. All recognized ChatGPT history requests use HTTPS. Fonts and extension code are bundled locally.

5. Your choices

You can revoke the extension’s ChatGPT site access, disable it, or remove it through Chrome’s extension settings. After doing so, reload or close existing ChatGPT tabs to remove code already running in those pages. A ChatGPT request already in progress may still finish.

We hold no server-side copy of the conversation data processed by the extension to provide, correct, export, or delete. Use ChatGPT’s own controls for data stored by OpenAI. For privacy questions or requests concerning information you voluntarily share with us, use the contact route below.

6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

GPT Navigator Helper’s use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information accessed by the extension is used only to provide its disclosed navigation-preparation and status features.

7. Contact, support, and this website

Contact the maintainer through the project’s GitHub Issues page. Issues are public: do not post private conversations, passwords, tokens, or other sensitive information.

If you choose to submit a support issue, we can see your public GitHub username and the information you provide and use them to respond and troubleshoot. Support records remain on GitHub until edited or removed under GitHub’s controls; we may retain them while needed to resolve and document the issue. This voluntary support information is separate from the extension’s local conversation processing.

This policy page contains no analytics, tracking scripts, forms, or externally loaded fonts. When hosted on GitHub Pages, GitHub may process standard request information, such as your IP address, to deliver and secure the site. GitHub also processes information you submit through its support features. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its last-updated date if the extension’s data practices change. Any future data handling will be disclosed before it is introduced, with additional notice or consent where required.
